This competency exam provides a thorough test of the key coding concepts in ICD-10-CM that pertain to inpatient coding.  The exam was created by identifying the key coding concepts in ICD-10-CM needed to be a proficient I-10 coder.  Then scenarios were written to test each of these concepts. This exam does not have a time limit but expected time to complete the exam is 3 to 4 hours.

ICD-10-CM

In this chapter instructions regarding skin infections will be reviewed.  These include assigning additional codes for infectious agents in diseases classified elsewhere.  The use of the terms dermatitis and eczema will be included as well as instructions for coding adverse effect to identify the drug if applicable. Changes in coding pressure and non-pressure ulcers will be reviewed, including stage and laterality. There are no changes in the Official Coding Guidelines for Chapter 12.

The digestive system is structured similar to ICD-9-CM; however, there are a few changes. Coding of gastric ulcers with hemorrhage and perforation and obstruction will be reviewed.
