ICD-10-CM

This is the most extensive chapter in ICD-10-CM.  The chapter has been reorganized so that the body region of the injury is the first axis and then the specific types of injuries.  This reorganization will be reviewed in-depth. The use of placeholders is extensive throughout chapter 19 as is the 7th character for designation of type of encounter, initial, subsequent or sequela for certain conditions.  The 7th character is also used to designate type of encounter for fractures.  Open fractures are classified according to the Gustilo fracture classification and these will be reviewed as well.  The classification of poisoning, adverse effects and a new category underdosing will be explored as well as several new Official Coding Guidelines for Chapter 19.
